PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THESE ARE “BALLPARK” FIGURES!
A lot of factors can affect how much it costs to hang your particular wallpaper. The cost can go up from here, if yours is a tricky paper to work with, or we have installation challenges. See our notes, below the chart!
.
TIP: Don’t forget to add the cost to purchase your wallpaper into your project planning!!
We don’t sell wallpaper here at D&L Wall Design, but we can refer you to local showrooms who do.
WHAT FACTORS AFFECT THE COST
TO INSTALL WALLPAPER?
01
THE DIMENSIONS OF YOUR SPACE
Not only does this dictate how much wallpaper you need to buy, but also the installation cost itself. Naturally, larger spaces will cost more to install, but a key factor here is the height of your walls. Most wallpapers are designed to accommodate walls that are 11’ high or less. With higher walls, you’re forced to order extra wallpaper to cover the extra height. But apart from needing to buy more wallcovering, it’s physically more challenging to hang wallpaper on taller walls, so most wallpaper installers will reflect this in your pricing.
02
THE EXISTING TEXTURE ON YOUR WALLS
It’s easiest to install wallpaper on walls that are what we call “wallpaper ready”, meaning that the texture on the walls is perfectly smooth (what the industry calls a “Level 5” finish). If there is currently wallpaper on your walls, we add a factor for dealing with the existing wallpaper. And if your walls are textured, such as with an “orange peel” texture which is common in most Miami homes, we’ll need to smooth those walls before installing wallpaper, so we charge accordingly.
03
THE TYPE OF WALLPAPER BEING INSTALLED
Is yours a specialty wallpaper? Is it made of silk, or hand-painted, or a photo mural? Wallpaper ranges from tissue-thin hand-made papers to heavy-duty commercial vinyl wallcoverings. Thinner, more fragile wallpapers are actually more difficult to work with. And don’t get us started on heavily textured or embossed papers, such as wallpapers covered in glass beads or mica flakes! They’re a nightmare to cut and unbelievably heavy to install. (But they sure look pretty!) In general, wallpapers that are hand-painted, metallic, fabric, or “untrimmed” will require a pricing adjustment. Wallpapers that are harder to work with will cost more to install than the pricing in our cost guide above.
04
MISCELLANEOUS FACTORS
There might be other variables that affect your installation pricing, such as ease of access to the space or whether you’re outside our usual service area. We’ll be clear on all these when we give you an estimate!
